UPLIFTING THE HEAVENS
Cedar on hickory
12 x 9 x 9"

I love Buddhas. Even the Happy Buddhas have wonderful mysterious expressions. A Buddhist friend told me this is the name of a Tai Chi move. Larger

GRATIA PLENA
Apple wood on hickory
25 x 10 x 9"
$2,500

I was thinking about acceptance...of whatever was happening to you in your life. Growing up Catholic brought me closer to the female side of religion, since historically they were next after the time of Mother/Goddess religions and not so afraid to include female influences. I was trying to show Mary as she is told of her fate. My mother named her Gratia Plena or 'full of grace'. Another front view Side view

HEJIRA
Mango on walnut
10.5 x 16 x 5"

This is one of those sculptures that started out as something else, until I turned it around in a different position. Suddenly, there was that face, the only dark spot on this light wood. I was thinking of movement and mobility. Her wing ends looked like the fins of a '57 Chevy. From the back side, her underbelly looks like wheels. She is powered by her energy ball of chi. SLIPPING AWAY
Dogwood on black walnut
12 x 41 x 9"
$2,500

I often have dreams of floating ... sometimes in air, sometimes in water. Usually I am swim-stroking through the air. Floating is so peaceful if you can relax into it. This piece stirs up memories of growing up on the Gulf coast of Florida and rocking on the gentle water. The dogwood is from my sister's yard in Tallahassee. Larger view

THE THREE GRACES
Cherry
12 x 12 x 2.5"
$800

I saw a reproduction of the Hellenistic Greek marble deep relief of The Three Graces and loved it. They were the companions of Aphrodite. I like carrying on the tradition of art by creating my own modern version of a classic. I was thinking of my two sisters and our own interactions with the goddess of love and beauty. Larger view

WOMAN
Black olive on cherry
36" x 16" x 11"
$20,000

Made from a black olive tree trunk brought to me from Miami after Hurricane Andrew. It took two years of carving this hard wood to complete the piece. Close-up Back view  Front view  Another back view  Profile view
